PostHeaderIcon High Glycemic Carbohydrates Vs Low Glycemic Carbs

High glycemic carbohydrates versus low glycemic carbohydrates is the basis of a Glycemic Index Diet Plan. It’s as simple as that really… Insulin secretion, which becomes “exaggerated” by high glycemic carbs turning to blood sugar extremely rapidly is another factor in the equation. Now I’m going to tell you exactly why.

You see, as Dr. Barry Sears so aptly described… exaggerated insulin levels lead to ill health, in many different ways.  Two problems associated with exaggerated insulin levels, below, are what I’m writing this article about today.

High Glycemic Carbohydrates Cause Exaggerated Insulin Levels

  • * Insulin “spikes” cause your body to store fat rather than burn it.
  • * Extreme insulin levels destroys the balance of eicosanoids in your body (Eicosanoids are the most powerful hormon in your body)

These two problems associated with elevated insulin secretion are important reasons for following a Glycemic Index Diet Plan. For folks trying to lose weight, they are probably the most important reasons for monitoring your high glycemic carbohydrates versus low glycemic carbs intake.

In simple terms, where weight loss dieters are concerned; when you eat carbohydrates with a high glycemic index your blood sugar increases too rapidly causing a “spike” in insulin secretion. Immediately your body stops burning stored fat for energy and begins storing the fat instead. That is why most people get fat and remain fat.

Low Glycemic Carbs Turn To Glucose More Slowly

Low glycemic carbs, on the other hand…  provide your body with the energy it needs while helping to maintain a regulated amount of insulin secretion because they turn to glucose, (blood sugar), far more gradually.

The second problem associated with exaggerated insulin levels, (caused by eating high glycemic carbohydrates), occurs when extreme insulin levels disrupt the eicosanoid balance in your body. When this condition prevails over a period of time it can cause many other diseases – heart disease, cancer, diabetes and some others.

Those who are suffering from type 1 and type 2 diabetes should also regulate their blood sugar levels by following a diet which takes into consideration the glycemic index of carbohydrates.

It is very simple to develop a glycemic index diet plan. In future articles, posts and pages of this blog, I plan on discussing the importance and advantages of monitoring our high glycemic carbohydrates versus low glycemic carbs intake more thoroughly. That is why you should bookmark this site, or subscribe to my RSS feed right now.

Some people go on and on about the weight loss benefits of low carb dieting. Dr. Barry Sears has shown me that a healthy weight loss diet provides plenty of carbohydrates, (usually more than you can eat), which are low glycemic carbs and hence avoiding the problems associated with exaggerated insulin levels. Extreme insulin spikes is the real killer caused by our poor diets. And, it’s the REAL reason we get fat and stay fat!

Bookmark this site now! It’s a new site and as time goes on I’m going to have a lot of information and help here for those trying to lose weight and keep it off – as well as for those who just want to enjoy a healthier diet.

Warmest Regards,
Doug, (the low carb diet guy)
